Manny Pacquiao’s team say $10-million dollar lawsuit under control
Despite Manny Pacquiao recently being hit with a $10-million dollar lawsuit, his lawyers claim the situation is under control.
Prestigious lawyer David Marroso is dealing with the case against “Pacman,” who is being sued by RBM Group International.
According to TMZ, the suit has to do with Pacquiao signing a contract with RBM in 2009 to record 12 songs that were never produced.
The lawsuit was filed in the Superior Court of Los Angeles County, widely respected as the largest single unified trial court in the United States.
Though Marroso indicated the situation was under control, he informed boxingscene.com: “at this point, we don’t know any of the facts, so I am not in a position to comment.”
RBM claims that Pacquiao was paid $40,000 by check in October 2009 for two songs which were ultimately never recorded. The company furthered that due to the contractual infringement they lost an estimated
profit of $10-million.
Pacquiao’s advisor, Michael Koncz, was first to tell boxingscene.com he had spoke to Marroso and that the attorney had said the “situation was under control.”
Pacquiao’s chief of staff Franklin Gacal added: “I am not privy to the contract [with RBM]. I am checking it out.”
Gacal emphasized that he had not been consulted about the aforementioned agreement.
Koncz, in a moment of unabashed emotion, said team Pacquiao has to be “prepared for this kind of sh—” in light of Pacquiao’s continued success.
Pacquiao receives a guaranteed purse of $15-million for his last fight against Antonio Margarito, or net pay-pay-view income for the event, depending on amount. If the net pay-per-view income exceeds
that of his purse, he will receive the latter.
Pacquiao is expected back in the Philippines in the coming days, where his victory over Margarito will be celebrated. He will then resume office Monday as congressman of the province of Sarangani.
