Manny Pacquiao’s trainer is his dog – Boxing News
Former Filipino WBO welterweight titlist Manny Pacquiao trains hard for his matches, and everyone knows that. However, what we did not know before was the fact that Pacquiao’s conditioning coach is his dog Pacman. It is quite a surprise to know that world’s
number one pound for pound fighter cannot beat his dog.
“Nobody could keep up with that dog,” said Roach in an interview with the Wall Street Journal, about the Jack Russell that was given to him by his assistant trainer Buboy Fernandez.
“He's part of my team,” added Pacquiao. “He is a special dog.”
The name Pacman was given by Pacquiao and his assistant trainer Fernandez. The terrier helps the Filipino fight sensation in running on the track, which eventually conditions his body, mainly his legendary calves.
Pacman teamed up with Pacquiao in 2008. Since then, the Filipino fighter has not lost a fight, apart from the recent controversial loss to Timothy Bradley.
Pacman works out with Pacquiao on tracks, mountains and trails.
Pacquiao is currently scheduled to face Mexican fighter Juan Manuel Marquez on December 8 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. It will be the Filipino’s fourth fight against Marquez. Previously, Pacquiao won two fights against Marquez, one via unanimous decision
and one via split decision. The first match between the two ended up in a tie.
Since their last bout ended up in a close split decision, fans booed for Pacquiao. Now, the Filipino wants to prove to the world that he defeated Marquez fair and square all three times. On the other hand, Marquez wants to prove that he defeated the Filipino
all three times.
It is yet to be seen if Pacman, the terrier, will help Pacquiao train and condition for this fight better than before. Since the Filipino has not been up to his game recently, many analysts are already calling him a write off. Pacquiao needs to prove his
mettle against Marquez, and at the same time earn enough points to score a fight against Floyd Mayweather Jr. next year.
If Pacquiao defeats Marquez, he will have a better chance to negotiate his paycheck with Mayweather.
