Ok so manny was traded (1st reported on yahoo answers by me) :)... Who got the better of this deal. I would say the pirates because of all the prospects they got and some of them have tremendous upside. The red sox were the losers because of how they gave up on manny and two great prospects. So chime in on this, What Do you guys think??

  1. I think that everyone got something that they were looking for in this deal.  For not a lot in exchange, The Dodgers got a hall of famer, admittedly in the autumn of his career.  The Pirates aren't going anyehere too soon so they got a handful of good young players.  And the Red Sox, maybe it wwas a case of addition by subtraction.

    Boston believes-  Nice analysis!!

  2. has to be the dodgers

  3. The Pirates get the best of it because they look good for years to come. Even though the Dodger didn't have to give up much, he is still a two month rental. But I think everyone does benefit from the trade

  4. I can see Jason Bay being friends with Dustin, Youkilis, Drew, and Varitek. I think he will help the team chemistry.

Boston Believes basically gets the 10 points hands down.

  5. The Dodgers got the best part of this deal.

The Red Sox gave up three players and $7 million. They only got Jason Bay in return. Bay is an average player. Small defensive upgrade, definite baserunning upgrade, less than half the bat of Ramirez. He'll have trouble adjusting to AL pitching and might not perform well under pressure.

The Red Sox pretty much threw away their season.

The Pirates definitely didn't get the best part of this deal. They're an embarrassment once again. Most Pirates fans feared the Bucs trading away Bay for nothing which is essentially what they did. Their ownership sucks. They're always trading away for prospects. Once those guys get good, they'll be gone for more minor leaguers.

At this point, with everything the Bucs have in their minors and playing for them right now, they could be okay. In a few years, they could be a winning team, if not a contender.

That is, if they stop trading away all their players.

The Dodgers won with this one.

  6. RED SOX POINT OF VIEW:

Hansen and Moss were decent at best, and Hansen is in his 3rd year in the league so he's not a prospect. We needed to get rid of Manny, and we got Bay in return, so I think we're in a better position than we were before because now everyone in our clubhouse will actually have some work ethic and a h**l of a lot of chemistry. Bay should fit in well here because he is a guy who works his *** off for his team and that's just the type of guy we needed instead of Manny.  Don't worry about Moss and Hansen, we recently replaced Hansen in the bullpen with Masterson and Moss was our 4th outfielder anyway.

    DODGERS POINT OF VIEW:

We just gave up 2 half decent guys and we got a Hall of Famer. The DBacks did not make any moves, but we did and we got Manny. We have been just 1 game behind them for a really long time, and Manny is definitely the guy we needed to put us over the top for the division. I'm glad the trade was so late because it gave the DBacks NO time to make a move like we did, so we have a huge advantage for the division with 2 months left.  Joe Torre should do a great job with Manny in keeping him a hard worker, and Manny should no longer act the way he has these last couple weeks with Boston.

    PIRATES POINT OF VIEW:

We used to have one of the best outfields in the league, but we just gave away Jason Bay, and now we're probably just going to play even worse for the rest of the season. We managed to get 4 young guys who can hopefully develop along with a lot of other players on our team, and in 4 or 5 years we may be the strongest team in the NL Central if everything goes right. I'm sad we lost Bay but we need to star planning ahead because keeping Bay clearly wasn't going to win us anything any time soon.

  7. I don't know. Manny Ramirez is pretty good as a baseball player, but I was kind of sick of his attitude. I think the Red Sox got Jason Bay and I don't really know much about him so maybe the Pirates got a better deal.

  8. Do you really want our thoughts or did you just want to broadcast how in the know you are about the deal?

  9. the dodgers got the best by far!  we gave up andy laroche and a pitcher for manny friggin ramirez!!!  his bat will let the dodgers dominate the weak n.l. west and carry us into the playoffs.  the dodgers now have the bat, and combine that with our stellar bullpen and we got a ticket to the post season.  so the dodgers got the best.

  10. I think the Dodgers have the upperhand on this one.

Im glad Manny is one of ours now! :)

  11. Jaba,

Clearly you're a yankee fan and quite happy with the change in the 3 spot in the sox lineup.   Bay has NEVER had a meaningful at bat in his career (with regard to pressure-cooker situations)...this is not his fault, I'm simply saying that Manny, while odd, is rock-solid in the near-term.   Having said that, his injuries may begin to become a greater issue than they currently are.   I'll call it a split decision, with the prospects tipping the scale.

  12. It was time for Manny to go.  He doesn't like Boston and his attitude was only getting worse.  It's too bad that Boston also lost Hansen and Moss.  I hope Jason Bay was worth all of that!!

    Avid Red Sox fan!
