Manny Ramirez lands at Tampa International Airport
Manny Ramirez will be playing with the Tampa Bay Rays this season and it’s quite evident that the player is going to go to Florida, sooner or later. The player has been the centrefold for most of the news coming out of Tampa today, as the player recently
landed the Tampa International Airport.
Ramirez has been actively working out and it gives the Rays something to be content with. The designated hitter carries with him a reputation of being a rebel. Playing for two different clubs last season granted Ramirez not an easy time in Major League Baseball,
as he struggled to make his mark with the bat against some of the top crop pitchers in the National League and the American League. His mindset posed a big question mark on his aptitude to deliver for the teams.
The Los Angeles Dodgers saw the least of Manny, as the player was injured and suspended following the use of illegal drugs. When he was transferred to the Chicago White Sox, nothing different happened as the player subsequently fell out-of-favour and underperformed.
The club had simultaneously slumped to a second position in the American League Central division, following the Minnesota Twins.
Now, with a contract signing left on the agenda, the player is making his way to Tampa Bay, in search of a chance to deliver again and reach the milestone of 600 home runs this season. Landing at the airport, Ramirez commented on his new start. On joining
the Rays, he was excited.
"Why not?" Ramirez said at Tampa International Airport. "It feels great."
After spending a long time in Arizona, working out immensely during the off season period, Manny, who’s 38, looks much lighter.
"I am. I am," said the elevated player. "Last year, I weighed like 237. This offseason, I'm down to 225, and I feel good."
There isn’t any official word on his contract value but after completing two years on his last deal, the designated hitter has mustered up $45 million. On the prospect of hitting and posting good numbers on the board, the player came out to say a few words.
"We'll see," Ramirez said. "I've done all right (there)."
Manny’s batting average was .298, last season in 90 games. He smashed 9 home runs and drove in 42 runs for both the Dodgers and the White Sox. The Rays will be hoping for an improvement on his form, this season.
