Manny Ramirez to White Sox on waiver claim
According to latest reports LA Dodger outfielder Manny Ramirez will move to the Chicago White Sox on Monday via a straight waiver claim.
Reports suggest that the Dodgers and White Sox were still trying to work out a deal which would send some prospects to the Dodgers but in all likelihood the deal will end up as a straight waiver claim. If it does end up as a straight claim, the White Sox will have to pay all of the $3.825million Ramirez is still owed to this season.
The White Sox had claimed Ramirez on Friday but the Dodgers were waiting until after their weekend series with division rivals the Colorado Rockies to make a decision. After losing two-of-three to the Rockies, LA are now 10 games out of first place in the National League West and all but out of the play-off race.
The Dodgers had benched Manny for the past four games, presumably to prevent any injury to the slugger. If Ramirez does move to Chicago he will become their designated hitter with the club hoping he will provide the big bat they need to catch the Minnesota Twins.
The White Sox are hoping Ramirez can help them make up 4.5 games on the Twins and help stop their bad form, after losing nine of their last 14 games.
Ramirez is batting .311 this season with eight homers and 40 RBIs, but has played in just 66 game this season following a plethora of injuries which have placed the 38-year-old on the disabled list three times this season.
If Ramirez avoids injury for the White Sox he could prove to be a great rental and change the look of the American League Central.
