Manny Steward: David Haye can never be the new Lennox Lewis even if he beats Wladimir Klitschko
The legendary trainer Manny Steward reckons that the World Boxing Association’s World Heavyweight Champion David Haye can never take place of Lennox Lewis even if he knocks out the current International Boxing Federation, International Boxing Organization,
World Boxing Organization and Ring Magazine champion, Wladimir Klitschko.
David Haye will take on Wladimir Klitschko for the title belt on July 2, 2011 at the Hamburg Football Stadium in Germany. This fight is also being considered as one of the biggest in the recent boxing history, as two of the boxing’s best will be one-on-one
in the ring.
Steward, who now trains Klitschko, previously trained Lennox Lewis and took him to the top of the boxing world. He helped Lewis to lift the undisputed world heavyweight title.
The trainer told the media Lewis was a completely different class which Haye is not. He added Lewis was one of the greatest heavyweights of all times whereas Haye is nothing but a cruiserweight and he himself knows that very well.
Steward continued that it is not Haye’s fault, as he believes there are no true warriors left out there.
While speaking on his inclusion, he said, “Lennox Lewis was a different kind of person to David Haye. Lennox was one of the greatest heavyweights of all time. He did it all the way from the 1988 Olympics for almost 20 years. David Haye is nothing but a cruiserweight
and he is very much aware of not being a real heavyweight. He isn’t a quality heavyweight. It ain’t necessarily his fault because there aren’t any out there.”
He then supported his statement by mentioning the likes of Ray Mercer, Evander Holyfield and Shannon Briggs.
“Lennox had some top fights. The scene then was full of fighters like Ray Mercer, Evander Holyfield and Shannon Briggs,” he said.
These are not the only comments that have come up as of yet. Both Wladimir and Haye have exchanged a lot of statements and it is fair to say that it is definitely going to be a scintillating battle between both heavyweights.
