Manny Steward: David Haye’s mindset was more into surviving and not being knocked out – Boxing news
Manny Steward, who is the trainer of IBF, WBO, WBA, IBO and Ring Magazine world heavyweight champion, Wladimir Klitschko, has said the Hayemaker, David Haye was stunned by his fighter’s speed the moment the first bell rang.
Steward told the media he figured it out after the very first round that Haye, who lost his WBA world heavyweight title recently in a highly anticipated unification bout for the heavyweight titles, was just avoiding a knockout.
However, the 30-year-old brash Londoner, Haye, did a lot of talking ahead of the biggest fight of his career. He declared he is going to knock off Klitschko’s head within six rounds and will come back home with all four belts on his shoulders. Moreover,
the Brit made a lot of t-shirts with a picture of him knocking Klitschko’s head off.
Steward stated he was really amazed to see how everyone was talking of Haye before the fight. He remarked Haye got a lot of attention ahead of the fight just because of his loud mouth but on the same note, the trainer said it was of no use as he was never
a tough opponent for Wladimir.
“He was exactly what I had figured,” Steward said. “I was amazed that everyone had built him up to be such a fighter based off his talk. It's really amazing what hype can do, and he didn't do anything that surprised me. I always figured it was going to be
an easy fight.”
While speaking on his inclusion, he said, “I could see at a certain point, really after the first round, that David's mindset was more into surviving and not being knocked out. He was very easy to figure out. I was just totally amazed how everyone had expected
him to come out and be like a Mike Tyson.”
