Manoj Tiwary may replace Rohit Sharma in the 3rd ODI – Cricket News Update
The Indian team management is presently facing a dilemma regarding team selection as some cricket analysts have been questioning Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s persistence with the middle-order batsman, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/RG-Sharma-c2309.
Sharma has been an integral part of India’s limited-overs squad since the last 14 months, earning two ‘Man of the Series’ awards against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 last year. However, the right-hander has been struggling to perform in the current
year, having scored merely five runs in the two ODIs against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 in the on-going tour till date.
The Men in Blue have the services of a number of brilliant young batsmen, including the 26-year-old cricketer from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Manoj-Tiwary-c1890, who ironically, scored a match-winning hundred in the last match he played, in December 2011
against the Caribbean men, but did not get any opportunity since then.
There is a school of thought, according to which, the Indian team management should replace Sharma with Tiwary in the remaining matches of the five-match series in the Island.
Dhoni, who has immense confidence in Sharma’s abilities, has an extremely hard decision to make because he wants to give more chances to the Maharashtra-born cricketer but does not want to block the progress of the other budding players
as well.
"That's a difficult choice that as a captain you have to make," the Indian captain expressed. "You always back youngsters but what is important is that in the process you are not coming in the way of somebody else who is sitting on
the bench. It is something that we need to decide, make a conscious attempt to [be] honest to yourself and not commit any harm to any other player."
Tiwary, who was a part of Kolkata Knight Riders’ title triumph in the fifth edition of the Indian Premier League, has so far played only six ODIs and a T20 International for the Men in Blue. His stats in first-class cricket however,
are absolutely brilliant, with the 26-year-old batsman averaging 58.58 runs per innings.
Both Sharma and Tiwary are talented players and are considered to be the future of Indian cricket. It remains to be seen who gets the nod ahead of the third ODI, which is going to be played tomorrow at Colombo.
