Question:

Manouvres and books???

I just ordered my first shortboard, it's a 6"8' swallow tail flyer, pretty much a fish.

I'm just wondering what manouvres are within reach of a shortboard this large?

I don't get much time surfing and I don't want to waste it trying to perfect manouvres that are completely out of the question.

Also I was wondering if anyone could recommend a good book for me to expand my surfing horizons?

Thanks.

  1. Bottom turns, three-point cutbacks, delayed round houses, and floaters. Those are slower maneuvers I suggested, because airs, snaps, 360's... are going to take a shorter board (especially if it acts like a fish). Course I'm assuming that the waves your talking about riding are 2-5 feet (3-8 foot face). It's a different story if you go larger than that.

  2. practice so you can stand up 100% of the time, not 99.99999% but 100%

then make ur own like i did i have a bunch of awesome moves and pullouts

  3. well first of all don't worry aboat manouvres yet. just get up on when you get that try a turn!

  4. I am old and fat now, but for over twenty years I rode a square tail twin fin. Right now, my short boards are a 7'8" twin fin fish and a 7'8" Lost SDII. The size of the waves and your ability are the only things holding you back on doing any particular maneuver on that board.

I don't know, offhand, of any books on technique, but the links may give you some good background info.
