Mansell Hit The Barrier Hard At The Le Mans Series
It was only the twentieth minute of the race when Nigel Mansell, at his debut for the Le Mans series crashed out heavily at this ever famous endurance race.
The Beechdean Motorsport car hit the barriers right after Mulsanne corner, at the seventeenth minute after the race started. Apparently, it was after the car suffered from a punctured tyre.
Mansell, the old Formula One driver was alongside his sons Leo and Greg, as a part of a three-driver line-up at Beechdean. After the crash he remained in his car for quite a lot of minutes before he was carried into an ambulance that rushed down to the track after the incident.
The fifty three year old driver was taken straight to the circuit's medical center at around 3:40 pm local time for on spot medical assessment.
After the crash, trackside marshals had to repair the armco barriers which got damaged from the incident. The safety car kept deployed at the track for about half an hour till the maintenance work went on at the site of the crash.
The incident let the number three Peugeot of Pedro Lamy take the lead that stayed at the front till the green flag was spread out as the safety car period ended. The other cars of the Peugeot factory, driven by Franck Montagny and Marc Gené took hold of the second and third positions respectively.
As they race regained its pace, Scotland's Allan McNish held fifth place in the number seven Audi.
It was within the next hour that Mansell was taken to the medical centre in another ambulance from here he was shifted to the local hospital at 4:10 pm local time. The whole incident left the driver’s fans in much concern and grief as they waited to hear of the driving sensation. Later, the race's official website gave an update claiming that Mansell was "fine" now, after receiving "a bump on the head". Moreover, it informed that there was nothing to get worried about and that he was completely out of danger.
