Mansour cruise past ERG in 2011 Bombardier Pacific Coast Open: 14-13 – Polo Update
Sapo Caset, the newest 10-goal handicap player of United States Polo Association (USPA) proved his worth and entered in the double-figure scoring, as Mansour cruised past ERG foursome in the opening round match of the 2011 Bombardier Pacific Coast Open held
at the Santa Barbara Polo Club in California.
Prior to the event, there was a major reshuffle in which Lolo Castagnola joined Mansour in the place of Miguel Astrada who started playing with Piaget side. Interestingly, both Piaget and Mansour received immediate benefits in the head of maiden victories
in the tournament.
It was a match with full of thrill and action, as both the teams made 30 fouls in the six chukkas action. Furthermore, all the six red flags pulled by the ERG side that gave Mansour an edge to win the match by a single goal.
The first chukka of play was opened by a single goal in the hands of Paco de Narvaez which was countered by a couple of goals from Sapo Caset of Mansour. In the later time, Castagnola added one more goal and put ERG under the weight of two-goal edge after
the first seven and half minute of play.
Interestingly, De Narvaez of ERG unfolded the second chukka with a pair of goals and levelled the results. Castagnola, the skipper of Mansour accounted for another goal to boost the morale of his team-mates. In the later time, his team-mate Caset notched
a pair of goals and concluded the frame with ERG sitting behind by three goals, 6-3.
In the third set of play, the ERG players cranked up their offence and closed the score. Paco de Narvaez marked a couple of goals and decreased the lead down to a single goal. From the other side, Caset scored once to hold back the two-goal advantage. After
the first half of play, the score was 7-5 with ERG trailing by two goals.
With minutes into the fourth chukka, Caset accounted for a pair of goals while Castagnola added one from the field. From the ERG side, Paco de Narvaez and Merlos added one goal each but failed to reduce the three goals difference.
In the second last chukka, ERG attack came alive and made a comeback into the match. Merlos scored off three penalty shots while Narvaez added one more. From the other side, Caset notched two goals to hold one goal edge, 12-11 with one chukka left to play.
At the start of the final frame, Merlos tied the knots at twelve-all with a goal from the field. Caset registered a couple of more goals to regain two-goal edge that was not ended by a single goal in the hands of Merlos. Mansour rode away the field by a
single goal, 14-13 and moved into the next round with great courage.
