Manu Ginobili came off the bench to post 20 points, going 6 out of 9 from the three point range, as he lifted San Antonio Spurs to a 110-89 victory over the Orlando Magic. The Spurs improved to 9-1 on the road with this win, the
best NBA team on the road this season.
Gary Neal scored 19 points; Tim Duncan collected 15, while Tony Parker had 14 points and 8 assists for the Spurs who won their fifth game in a row.
Arron Afflalo paced the Magic with 16 points and 5 rebounds, Jameer Nelson had 14 points and 5 rebounds while Glen Davis contributed 12 points. Orlando shot 13.3 percent from the three point range compared to 44 percent shooting
by the Spurs from behind the arc.
A Duncan layup put the Spurs up 8-6, before the Magic scored the next 6 points to go up 12-8 early in the first period. Ginobili nailed a three pointer to put the Spurs up 18-14; he dropped down four out of four from downtown in
the first quarter. His exploits helped Spurs compile a 13-0 run that put them ahead on 23-14. San Antonio pushed their lead to 29-18 by the end of the period.
Magic scored the first five points in the second period but the Spurs did not let the momentum slip out of their hands as a Tiago Splitter dunk shot had them up 34-25 in the early going of the quarter. Later on, Orlando made it
a five point game on 35-40 before the Spurs finished the period strongly, as Duncan drained a three pointer at the buzzer to push their lead to 55-41 by halftime.
Magic kicked off the second half with an 8-2 run to reduce the deficit down to 49-57. Any thoughts someone might be having about a possible comeback were quickly blown away by the Spurs as they replied with a 10 for nil burst capped
off by a Danny Green shot from downtown to cement their authority on 67-49. They never looked back as they raced to an 81-64 lead by the end of the period.
The Spurs opened up the final period with two back to back shots from downtown to push their lead to 87-64. A Gary Neal jumper moments later, opened up a 25 point lead on 91-66 for the Spurs. Magic tried to turn on their damage
mitigation mode, but they could not reduce the deficit by much as San Antonio cruised to a 110-89 victory in the end.
Despite their very decent going in the game, the Spurs were outrebounded 39-46 by the Magic; it is an area Spurs Coach Gregg Popovich will be looking to improve.
