  1. manual, is by far the best, why would want to learn with an automatic, when you only have to start all over again to learn manual....<^><....

  2. I drive a semi-autamatic renault ,which has a computer operated clutch (and therefore no clutch pedal ).It is quicker than a manual and more fuel efficient and not having to change gear all the time is so mutch easier . It is the best of both systems.

  3. manual=cheaper.

    automatic easier to learn.

    best answer!!!

    xx

  4. if you pass test in auto in the uk you cant drive a manual

  5. automatic but manual is fun to drive

  6. Auto is easier and can be more economical depending on how you drive. One day I believe we shall all be driving autos. However, I admit to enjoying the good manual box on my Audi TT but I also drive an Audi A4 Avant with an auto box and that is quite brilliant.

  7. What do you mean cheaper to do?

Autos are definitely easier to learn, but if you're in the UK and pass your test on an automatic, you'll be restricted to them unless you retake your test on a manual.

Depending on the manufacturer, it may cost more to buy a car with an automatic box, and it's likely to be less economical.  Insurance companies can be funny - some give a discount to drivers of automatics, because they're perceived to be less aggressive (I've also heard of thieves breaking into cars, and then not taking them because they don't know how to get out of Park!).  On the other hand, some will charge a higher premium, for some unknown reason.

Once you've passed your test, the choice is mainly personal, and depends a lot on your style of driving.  Automatics are great for motorway driving, and also surprisingly good around towns.  Manual is the box of choice for A and B roads though.

  8. automatic is easier, but there is the sacrifice of lost HP and MPGs. I like manual transmissions, they're funner and quicker

  9. I currently drive a forfour semi-auto which allows me to drive fully auto or use the tiptronic side to flick between gears.

I passed my within 8 months learning in an auto (would have been 6), it is a lot easier to learn as there's no clutch control involved, hill starts are simple - handbrake on, depress throttle until it bites, release handbrake, away.

I may may somebody retake my test in a manual, but a lot more cars are becoming autos due to stricter emission laws and mpg - the car make the correct gear change to optimise fuel & burn efficiency.

As for cost, an auto will always cost more but when will be worth more when you come to sell it as there are less about.

Performance, avoid CVT 'boxes they drain power from the engine but are economical as they find the optimum ratio for the speed. Standard torque convertor 'boxes drain fuel and feel slow to respond. Tip/steptronic boxes are best, they are a manual 'box but with an  electronic clutch.

My forfour has a simpler version of the DSG 'box which means I can out accelerate a standard manual version and have better fuel economy plus its an absolute hoot to drive.

Go down the auto route for now, its simpler will cost less in the time to learn to drive. Get used to the road and driving by yourself for a couple of years then take your manual test. That was my plan at least, 3 years down the road and I still drive an auto, but tiptronics are the best of both worlds.

Have fun and good luck in whatever you decide. Sorry if I waffled. :D

  10. Most will say that Automatic powered vehicles are easier to learn in. But infact they aren't.

You have to make more effort to slow the car down. When driving a manual and you need to slow down, you can just clutch in and change down to 2nd Gear. This will do it for you. In other words you do not have to brake neccercerily.

If you were to learn in an automatic and later decided to buy a manual transmission vehicle, you may start to find it difficult to control, and use in General.

Also you may have a Full Automatic licence, this will mean that driving a manual vehicle unattended is prohibited.
