Manuel Charr: Vitali is a great champion but he did not win today – Boxing News
Manuel Charr, the 27-year-old German fighter who lost to Vitali Klitschko on September 8, 2012, believes the Ukrainian fighter did not defeat. Charr revealed he has great respect for Vitali as a fighter and champion, but on September 8 the Ukrainian did
not win, instead the fight ended up in a way no one expected.
“Everyone who knows me know that I never give up,” said Char to reporters after the fight. “Vitaly is a great champion but he didn't win today _ it was the doctor who won the bout. It was not our corner's decision.”
Charr then asked Vitali for a rematch, a request that was turned down immediately.
“I understand your big desire to face Klitschko again, but you know that so many boxers would like do it and if we meet so often we won't give a chance for the others,” said Vitali, while praising Charr for his performance.
Charr was disappointed. He revealed he came to Moscow to become a champion but the fight ended up in an expected way.
Not just Charr, even Vitali Klitschko was disappointed with the decision.
“I'm a bit disappointed because I wanted to win by a real knockout not a technical one. I was ready to keep on fighting and Charr also wanted. But it was the doctor's decision and it was his responsibility,” said Vitali.
Right from the start, Vitali Klitschko was overpowering Charr in the ring. It seemed as if Charr was not the right opponent for Klitschko. Klitschko eventually won the fight with a technical knockout after the cut sustained by Charr above his right eye started
bleeding heavily.
It was the first defeat of Charr’s career and the 45th win of Vitali’s career. Vitali has now improved to 41 knockouts in his portfolio, while Charr dropped to 21 wins and 1 loss.
Lastly, Vitali appreciated Charr’s fighting capabilities, saying he is a great fighter with a big heart.
As of now, Vitali is already on the verge of retirement and so he does not see the possibility of a rematch against Charr. Maybe in the future, if Charr is lucky, he might get a chance against Vitali.
