Bayern Munich have received a major blow ahead of the club’s opening game of the 2011/12 Bundesliga campaign. Their newly recruited goalkeeper Manuel Neuer has been pronounced ill just hours before the encounter which has given the manager Jupp Heynckes
a lot to think about. The manager would decide just minutes from the start whether to include Neuer or play with the third choice goalkeeper, Maximilian Riedmuller.
Munich manager expressed utter disappointment after learning about the player’s illness during the club’s training session. He urged the medical staff to work hard on the player’s fitness in order to make him available for the season opener. Heynckes mentioned
that his side are fortunate enough to have Monchengladbach in their sights otherwise Neuer’s absence could have been a big disaster for the Bavarians.
The manager also confirmed about the fitness of their second choice goalie, Hans-Jorg Butt. The 37-year-old has been suffering from flu and hasn’t recovered yet to take the field. Heynckes told that had Butt been fit to start, Munich could have afforded
Neuer’s absence from the final line-up.
The 25-year-old shot stopper, for his part, is disappointed to learn about the possibility of missing out on his Bundesliga debut. The former Schalke man enthused that he had been waiting for this moment to come for a long time and it’s going to be very
unfortunate to miss out on the club’s opening game. However, he was hopeful of a speedy recovery and was confident about his team’s chances in this year’s campaign.
The goalie landed at the Allianz Arena during the summer after spending two decades with Schalke. He joined the club’s youth system in 1991 and made his way into the club’s second string side in 2004. Neuer was called into the senior side in 2005 and made

Neuer was hoping to get fit on time in order to take part in the club’s opening game to be played on Saturday, August 6, at Allianz Arena.
