The Bayern Munich goalkeeper is disappointed after the first-leg defeat at the hands of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/FC-Basel-c39079 in the knock-out stage of the UEFA Champions League.
The Munich giant suffered a shock loss at the hands of Swiss side FC Basel in the first-leg of the knock-out stage of the Champions League. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Valentin-Stocker-c35843 scored the only goal of the match four minutes from time to give his side
the advantage, with a close range finish.
Neuer expressed his frustration on the result and admitted that his side wasted some great opportunities to score. The goalkeeper insisted that Bayern defended poorly throughout the match and did not play well at all.
The German international stated that FC Basel deserved the victory as they played some brilliant football throughout the course of 90 minutes. He admitted that it will not be easy for his side in the second-leg at Allianz Arena
and warned his side about the attacking threat of the opposition.
“Naturally, we’re gutted about the result. Everything went wrong for the goal. Basel’s victory wasn’t undeserved. They had really good chances in the first half, although so did we. We have top-class individuals, but it’s not going
smoothly or easily at the moment,” he was quoted as saying in an interview.
On the other hand, Bayern President, Uli Hoeness claimed that his side did not have a good game and admitted that the opposition was stronger. He added that his side cannot afford to repeat the performance in the second-leg and
is confident that Bayern Munich will progress to the quarter-final after a good showing at Allianz Arena.
“I didn’t think it was a particularly good game, but the playing surface was very difficult for our technically skilled team. In my opinion, 1-0 is a result which gives us every chance in the second leg,” he concluded.
The Bavarian giants will take on FC Basel on Tuesday, March 13, at the Allianz Arena for the second-leg of the knock-out round in the Champions League. The former German champions now have two tough fixtures in the Bundesliga against
Schalke and Bayer Leverkusen in the coming weeks.
