The Bayern Munich goalkeeper has expressed his desire to win the Bundesliga this season after failing to achieve the feat with Schalke.
Bayern Munich are well on course to win the league title this season after a disappointing campaign in the previous outing. They have a marginal three-point lead at the top of the table over Borussia Dortmund and Schalke, and are
the favourites to lift the Bundesliga title at the end of the season.
Neuer reckons that Bayern are in with a perfect opportunity to lift the crown this season, and wishes to lay his hands on the cup for the first time in his career. The goalkeeper added that winning the Bundesliga is his utmost
priority this season as he has never won the competition before.
While talking to the official club website, the former Schalke shot stopper further added:
"I want to win the league at last. That's my biggest goal, even if some of the lads who’ve been here for a while and who’ve frequently laid hands on the championship shield might not want to hear it."
Neuer signed for the Munich giants in last summer’s transfer window after spending almost two decades at Schalke. The player came through Schalke’s youth ranks in 2005, and made his way into the club’s senior side in 2006. Neuer
made 155 league appearances for the Veltins-Arena outfit before parting ways prior to the start of this season.
On the other hand, the goalkeeper also commented on his team’s prospects in the UEFA Champions League. He believes that the Reds are on par with two Spanish giants, Real Madrid and Barcelona, when it comes to quality and style
of play.
"Our chances in Europe have a lot to do with form on the day. We've turned in a number of good displays in the Champions League. If we can repeat that or even improve on it, we're on a par with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Barcelona-c38604 or Madrid," Neuer concluded.
Bayern will take on Borussia Monchengladbach on Friday, January 20, when the league resumes. Their opponents in the Champions League knock-out stages are http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/VfB-Stuttgart-c40879 in the quarter-finals
of the German Cup.
