The former Sporting Gijon coach was given his last farewell in front of an audience of over ten thousand strong supporters.
Thousands of fans gathered at the home stadium of Sporting Gijon to attend the tribute of Manuel Preciado, who left a void in the hearts of El Molinon faithful with his shock death last week after accepting the position of Villarreal head coach.
Around 10,000 supporters filled the West Tier of El Molinon to bid farewell for their long standing head coach.
As the event started, majority of the gathered fans were seen crying as they paid their last respects to the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Racing-c40298 Santander youth academy graduate who parted company with Los Rojiblancos earlier in the season after six years that saw them promoted from
the Segunda Division in 2007/08 campaign.
The gathering saw many present and past personalities from political and sporting backgrounds. The list included president of Sporting Gijon, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Manuel-c23383 Vega Arango, the Minister of Education, Culture and Sports, Ana Gonzalez, and the Mayor of Gijon, Carmen
Moriyon.
Also present were representatives of the Municipal Corporation, the coordinator of IU in Asturias, Jesus Iglesias and the leader of PRC and president of Cantabria, Miguel Angel Revilla.
The chaplain of Sporting Gijon, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Fernando-c13609 Fueyo, was the officiating priest in charge of the emotional gathering. Altar of the priest was located in the heart of Molinon.
Fueyo highlighted the memory of Preciado, as a resilient figure who fought against all odds and always exuded optimism in abundance.
The chaplain stated that the nature of the meeting for the afternoon was not to throw a party but to pray and give their tribute for a brother who was taken from them unexpectedly.
During the proceedings, Fueyo recalled some of the quotes from Manuel Preciado, and encouraged of the family of the Cantabrian technician to look to the future with optimism.
The chaplain praised him as an individual who always wanted to make others happy and help them in whatever way he could. At these words there was applause for several minutes in El Molinon, with a video tribute closing the farewell ceremony.
