Manulife Financial LPGA Classic 2012: Lindsey Smith fully fit to face rivals after career-threatening accident
Canadian Lindsey Smith is more than happy to find a spot in the Manulife Financial LPGA Classic 2012, scheduled to be played from June 21-24, at Waterloo, Canada.
Smith has been seeking to prove her worth on the LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) Tour for a long time now, but the tournament this week is going to give her plenty of opportunities to put herself
in the limelight.
The professional golfer had been playing well and proving her worth on the course until she had a car accident in 2008. She was reportedly hurt by a car while jogging.
Her biggest goal was to gain a full-time membership of the LPGA Tour, but the career-threatening accident had put her off the course for months.
According to sources, Smith has managed to ride out tough times, and is now fully fit to take on rivals at the home course.
The Canadian star may not be as strong a contender as American Stacy Lewis, but she knows how to face pressure on the course.
She took part in the practice session held at Waterloo on Tuesday, which was also attended by several big names. Smith drained a series of birdies to show rivals that she is not to be taken lightly.
The Manulife Financial LPGA Classic 2012 is featuring nine Canadian contenders — something analysts said will help attract massive crowd. Although the field is awash with plenty of top-ranked LPGA stars, Canadian
players have vowed to do their best.
Smith wants to set foot on the Waterloo course with a different approach, as she claimed that she has fixed flaws in her putting and swing. She looked calm and composed on the practice range on Tuesday, which
reflects that she is keen to move ahead.
Speaking to the media about her preparations for the Manulife LPGA Classic, the Canadian prodigy said that she is lucky enough to have a huge fan following.
Smith will be playing her first tournament since the accident that caused her to undergo knee surgery. She said that she is determined not surrender to her nerve, but the pressure will definitely be enormous.
“This is the first tournament I will walk since the accident. So the fact that I’m out here and can walk and play is honestly a dream come true,” said the ambitious star.
