Manulife Financial LPGA Classic 2012: Shanshan Feng ties for second position in second round
Chinese Shanshan Feng stood strong in the second round of the Manulife Financial LPGA Classic 2012, as she registered a 68 to jump to the second position on the leaderboard.
Feng appeared to be in high spirits, as she played sensibly on most of the holes in the second round.
The Chinese started her round in a cautious style, as she avoided tainting her scorecard by making solid shots. She parred the first four holes, indicating that she was not under pressure.
Feng got off to a stunning start in the first round of the inaugural tournament being played at Waterloo, Canada, as she posted an impressive 66 to stand tied for the 3rd spot on the leaderboard.
The rising star ramped up pressure on rivals in the second round and grabbed attention.
On the front nine of the second round, the Feng shot three birdies. She stunned the spectators and her rivals when she scored two back-to-back birdies on the par-4 7th and the difficult par-4 8th.
She, however, faltered on the 14th hole on the back nine, as she recorded her first bogey.  On the last nine holes, the young prodigy made one birdie.
Although the second day saw strong winds whipping through the course, Feng remained calm and composed, thanks to solid nerve control.
Golf commentators said that because to a sensible start she made in the opening round, the Chinese golfer put herself in a comfortable position.
“I think it was my second year on Tour, it was McDonald's, by that time it was the LPGA Championship, and I played the first two days with Michelle and Christina Kim and Christina Kim was on the mic.  So actually
it was the same situation as three years ago,” Feng shared while talking to the media at the end of the second day.
She went on to say that she was happy to maintain her form, but pointed out that sensible putting helped her improve her position on the leaderboard.
Feng, who won her first major title at the LPGA Championship 2012 recently, looked strong throughout the second day. “I played very well the first day and then I fell apart my second day and I missed the cut
by like two”.
