Manulife Financial LPGA Classic donates $250,000 to St. Mary’s General Hospital Foundation
The Manulife Financial LPGA Classic that staged its latest edition in June 2012, has reportedly donated a sum of $250,000 to St. Mary’s General Hospital Foundation.
The Manulife Financial LPGA Classic 2012 that saw American Brittany Lang clinch a victory in a tough battle raised enough money to present to its charity partner, St. Mary’s General Hospital Foundation.
Both the entities have been in cooperation for a long time now, with St. Mary’s General Hospital Foundation running a range of health care programmes. One of the biggest programmes being run by the Foundation is Cardiac Care Centre.
Cardiac Care Centre has been around to spread awareness about women’s cardiac health and has done well thanks to the cooperation and support of the LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) tournament.
Nicole Boivin, Senior Vice President and Chief Branding and Communications Officer at Manulife Financial, said that he is pretty happy to see that the Manulife Financial LPGA Classic has been with the Foundation every step of the way since the two entities came in contact.
Boivin went on to say that since the Manulife Financial has been playing an active role in women’s golf for years and boasts great loyalty among fans and LPGA contenders, the tournament decided to get in touch with St. Mary’s General Hospital Foundation about a decade ago — and this relationship has proved beneficial for the both the entities—both in terms of sport and charity work.
The Senior Vice President pointed out that volunteerism plays an important role in LPGA tournaments because fans like to connect to the Tour and players in every possible way, which is why the Manulife’s commitment to stick to volunteerism has helped the officials reap good results.
“We chose St. Mary's as our charity partner because of their strong local roots, their commitment to volunteerism, and their work to help improve the quality of life and health of residents in the region," Boivin said.
"Manulife Financial is one of Waterloo Region's largest employers and we are so pleased this world-class tournament has benefited one of our community's most important local charities".
Peter Sweeney, President of the St. Mary's General Hospital Foundation, said that the partnership with Manulife Financial has been better than expectations, and they look forward to working together for cardiac care in the future as well.
“Manulife has been a vital partner in enabling St. Mary's to become one of the province's preeminent providers of cardiac care," shared Sweeney.
