  1. yellow dye

  2. in the 40's (??) I remember a form of lard or maybe Crisco,,, came in a plastic bag and  a yellow dye pack on the inside

pinching the pack and then squishing the bag to mix

placing it back in the box to chill and you had  a one pound  cube of margarine,, shortly after they mixed the dye and wrapped in ¼lb cubes

Now that (the paper wrap),, may have upset the butter industry because because now it was too close to the wrap for butter

But they changed the way they fold the wrapper on the cubes..

I am just old what do I know..

  3. it was a small bit of dye in the middle of the package, when you pressed on it, you would squish the package until the whole package was yellow.  The margarine was white, so the dairy industry didn't want it looking like butter. I live in Wisconsin and we used to have to drive to Illinois to get margarine.  I love butter but it was expensive.  No one thought about the health issues back then.
