  1. The inclusion of the word "National Association" or its abbreviation "N.A." is a required part of the distinguishing legal title of national banks, which are regulated by the OCC, or Office Of The Comptroller Of Currency.

The word national in no way refers to the bank having a national presence, as some national banks are only in one state.  Additionally, it in no way refers to statewide banks working together.

  2. National Association.  I believe it means that legally/technically it is an association of statewide banks working together as a national business.
