Many Stars could miss Rugby World Cup
Less than 11 months remain in start of the 7th Rugby World Cup, Which is starting from Sep, 09 next year in different cities of New Zealand, there are chances that some of the leading players of Rugby could miss the World Cup.
As the story goes, Aviva Premiership has refused to non-English internationals players from joining their squads until August 4 next year. Mr. Simon Cohen the Head of operations of Leicester Football Club admits that many of their players could miss the
World Cup unless the issue is resolved.
The story heated up when Wales head coach, Warren Gatland, criticized the decision of Premier Rugby in strong words. He described the decision as 'ridiculous'.
If the issue is not resolved then many stars players like Geordan Murphy (Ireland), Marcos Ayerza (Argentina), Martin Castrogiovanni (Italy) and Alesana Tuilagi (Samoa) will miss the World Cup, which will be very disappointing for their fans and the World
Cup can lose its charm as well.
Furthermore Mr. Simon Cohen said he hopes this issue will be resolved and all the star players play for their national teams so people could see the best action but if it doesn’t then sympathises with the players.
"I do, however, have a huge amount of sympathy with a player because it could cost them the opportunity to play in a World Cup".
He went on further to say everyone wants their teams to be powerful and play with their best combination. And countries' unions can play a huge role to get this issue resolved.
"Nobody wants to see a player miss out on a World Cup but it is a position that the unions are best-placed to deal with".
"I have no sympathy for the countries' unions because they have the ability to do something about it".
Wales will be playing against England on August 6 in the coming year and players will be released on August 4 just before two days of the match. Gatland said it will be very difficult for players to play right after two days of release, as it is difficult
to make a combination.
Simon Cohen said clubs pay players and they have the right to keep players for club matches but issue can be resolve by negotiation.
"The clubs pay the players' wages. And they have shown with England that if the unions are prepared to accept the fact that we are the employer, then the clubs are prepared to release the players".
"The Welsh and Irish provinces put millions of Euros directly into their playing resources. If they choose to allocate them as they do that is up to them, but they cannot then claim the moral high ground".
The rugby unions of effected player’s country’s can offer compensation to the effected players club and get them release.
This issue should be resolved in a positive manner and players should be released for the World Cup before time so players could adjust to their national teams. But if this issue doesn’t get resolve and players miss the World Cup then it will be very disappointing
for the fans and the World Cup will lose its charm.
