  1. Many countries who have had women leaders have NOT outlawed abortion. It wasn't the women presidents (at least in cases I know of) that were the reason abortion was illegal, but, as in the cases you list, the Catholicism of the countries.

In this country, the president alone can't make law.

So, what of it? I think you're seeing connections that don't exist; most countries that have outlawed abortion have been run by men.

  2. Great Britain, Germany, Sweden ...

I think you are talking out your ****

  3. Statistically, more female leaders are returned by familial and monarchical systems, than 'modern democratic' ones.  This is true of countries like Pakistan, where Benazir Bhutto's party asked her son to lead after her assassination.  So it is safe to say, many, if not most female leaders have been in more conservative, rather than progressive countries  :-)

  4. All three Catholic nations, last I checked. I think religion is a bigger influence than the chromosomal structure of premiers. Venezuela is one country that is held up time and again as an example of horrendous abortion laws, but has never had a woman as President. In the UK we've had a female PM and still have a female head of state, but our laws are relatively liberal on the matter.

  5. Not all women are pro-choice, especially in countries with Catholic majorities. Besides, the president doesn't get to change the laws any way she wants. Checks and balances, remember?
