there's a deleted scene that i saw a video of about a month before the movie came out that shows a oil drilling platform having been destroyed. A interview on it says they heard something around the time they were drilling and then the thing gets ripped apart.

if you look at one shot of NYC in the movie you will see something burning in the harbor. its the remaints of the platform that for some reason the monster drug with him

the video is saying thye somehow awoke the monster under the sea
