but giving repetitive hwk for some students i s unnecessary and i try and differentiate my homework for most students-  a few rote- a word question s and an application q.

To an extent, yes. Unfortunately now, most homework given is just bullshit busy work.

No, if it's something like math, repetition is the only way to learn and if a little homework is necessary, so be it, but many teachers give a bunch of unneccessary work. If it all possible, most work should be given and time be given to complete it in class.

No, it is one reason today's students are stressed.  It is robbing them of the joys of childhood.

yes and no... i think daily assignments help monitor students' grasp of material, but i am completely against any busywork that prevents them from rest time, wholesome activities and family time.  this takes both effort and monitoring on teachers' part.  ex: watch the news tonight and be prepared to discuss one of the major global headlines.  then, independently, students answer in class, to avoid copying, and a grade is given, showing the assignment was accomplished, or not
