I have a Mississippi map that is about 2-3 inches him/her is not really that big at all and I have him/her in a 29 gallon tank. Now I'm thinking about getting two baby red eared sliders to put in the 29 gallon tank with him/her. Would they be able to swim in that tank or would they drown. Or would they fight. My map is not aggressive at all he's more shy than anything and looks a bit lonely

  1. You should have pretty close sizes.  Also, you need some kind of land that they can get up on, like 1/3 of the tank.  Here's more info., the Tortoise Trust is an excellent, informative site:

  2. you probably could put 2 sliders with a map.  you would have to get a much much larger tank since res get over 10 inches but they could all fit in the 29 gallon as hatchlings.   the only thing i would worry about is the size difference. if you have a female m. map then you dont have a problem because they get about the same size as the slider.  a male on the other hand stays so small that he could easily get hurt.  almost all turtles fight at feeding time so they would need to be fed separately.  i personally would just get another (same s*x) mississippi map turtle if you want to get him a buddy. you wouldnt have to worry about size difference, just getting a bigger tank.

to s*x your mississippi map look at its tail and claws.  males have long claws and females have short claws.  males have wide thick tails and females have skinny tails.

    hope this helps

  3. i guess its fine , as long as you dont see any aggression. they live in the wild together-

They love company!  BUT they must be close in size and that tank won't be big enough for two. They can be canabalistic if their tank i s to small and there is not enough to eat.

You  know that they need to bask under a reptile light for  8 to 10 hrs a day for the vitamin D that  they need to grow.

Leave the heater on 75 to 78 degrees always.

Their water needs to be clean otherwise they get sick easily from dirty water cause they p**p allot.

You need a good filter system!

You need to feed them feeder guppies, goldfish or minnows for protein and calcium daily.

They need leafy greens for vitamins at least 3 to 4 times a week.
