I asked a similiar question on my map turtle and I got like 1-2 answers, which did not help.

Can I feed my Map turtle something besides turtle sticks?

(Do I really have 50% best answer?)

  1. no you have 43 percent best answer. try feeding him fruits or someting maybe crickets i dunno

  2. Why do people keep saying to feed meat-eating aquatic turtles so many plants, and especially fruit- which is high in sugar and hard for turtles to digest (they like fruit, but that does not mean it is good for them. After all, how often would a wild turtle get the chance to eat fruit in the water?)

Try a mix of about 1/2 good pellets (Reptomin or Mazuir, for example), and 1/2 live or frozen/thawed fish foods like small fish, shrimp, insects, worms, arthropods, beef heart, krill, snails, etc.

  3. Live food is best: earthworms, fishes (not goldfish), snails, soft-bodied insects. When you can't get live food, cut liver into strips and dust it with bonemeal.

  4. Exclusively feeding hum turtle sticks is not good.  He needs to eat some high calcium greens (dandelions, endive, escarole) and a small amount of fruit.  He should also have various sources of protein - night crawlers, feeder fish, crickets, snails ,,, etc.  The diet should be mainly protein, but do continue to feed the sticks, fruits and greens.  Variety is the key.  Don't forget a calcium supplement.  Good luck to you and your turtle!  :)

  5. my turtle loves blackberries and worms.

  6. Mississippi Map turtles are omnivores (but as adults more carnivorous than sliders). They’re easily over-fed protein resulting in an unhealthy growth rate and pyramiding of the shell. They readily eat live foods such as crickets, earth worms, and meal worms, & commercial dry foods such as Mazuri and ReptoMin. They will also eat some vegetables such as Romaine lettuce
