Mapfre Aspar Team rider Hector Barbera finishes 9th in San Marino Grand Prix – MotoGP news
Mapfre Aspar Team rider Hector Barbera crossed the finish line in ninth place for the San Mario Grand Prix.
The 13th MotoGP event took place at the Misano World Circuit.
The Spanish rider started the race from the ninth position on the gird. With a rain-affected race start, he was not able to do well in the beginning.
Barbera said, “First, I want to say that this was a rather good weekend for us overall. As far as the race itself, yesterday we inspected the track in order to prepare for the start and the braking points to use.”
In the initial three laps, he suffered due to a mistake he made. It was due to his lack of confidence in the bike as the rain had wet the tarmac. However, after the shock he gathered himself and continued in a good form. He was almost trapped in a crash
at the start of the race.
Though he started from ninth position but following the error he dropped four positions and had to rework all the progress. After that incident, he made up for his loss and finished in the same place as he started.
Barbera said, “I got off the line well and was going perfectly up until the first corner, where I didn't brake confidently on account of it spitting with rain -so I locked up. I had to make a save on the next turn and was then passed by a number of riders.”
The Spanish rider explained his situation in the race after the error he made. He continued his race with couple of slow laps, tried to loosen up his mind, and meanwhile was thinking of the rain.
After the two slow and tough laps, he started to pace up and make ground on the riders ahead. From then on, he raced well.
His race lap times matched his practice times and it was a good sign for the team behind as it was made possible with his maximum effort.
Though Barbera finished in a safe position but he regretted on the poor start in the race. In future, he tends to improve upon his position on the gird and strategy at the start off.
Overall, he claimed the weekend to be a positive one for the Mapfre Aspar team. Now he will be heading to his home event at Motorland Aragon in Spain.
