Mapfre Aspar Team’s Hector Barbera back to MotoGP action for Brno event – MotoGP news
Mapfre Aspar Team rider Hector Barbera is ready get back to racing for Cardion AB Grand Prix at Brno, Czech Republic. The MotoGP event will take place on August 14, 2011.
Hector Barbera said, “Brno is a special circuit for me - I managed to finish fourth here in my first season riding in the 125cc World Championship after qualifying in ninth, which is still one of my best ever races and one I will always remember.”
After resting during the short summer break, the Spaniard is looking forward to an event that is held on one of the longest tracks in the MotoGP calendar. It will be very demanding in terms of physical fitness and race pace.
Ducati is lacking pace on long straights whereas, the rivals Honda and Yamaha are much stronger. However, Yamaha is also better in corners whether high speed or low speed bends, meanwhile Ducati is facing under-steer issues.
Barbera said, “We were riding on standard kit and managed to fight with the factory riders. I love Brno and I am perfectly prepared for this one. I have done a lot of physical training over the break and I am looking forward to giving 200% on track.”
He also commented about the circuit layout at Czech. The circuit consists of fast corners like Silverstone. The previous two circuits at Sachsenring and Laguna Seca were narrow and did not allow achieving higher top speeds.
The Spaniard is looking forward to improve his performance ahead of what he displayed in Jerez and scored a position in top six.
He continued his good performance at Mugello, Sachsenring and Laguna Seca. Though he was not able to hit top six positions but he felt better with his satellite Ducati machine.
The first half of the season for Barbera ended with one ‘did not finish’ status and scored points in nine rounds out of ten. However, he has visibly improved his race pace and hopes to do more through the next half.
