Mapfre Aspar rider Hector Barbera crashed out on his final move at Indy GP – MotoGP news
Mapfre Aspar team rider Hector Barbera crashed out in the final moments of the Red Bull Indianapolis Grand Prix.
The Spanish rider started the race from tenth position as the second fastest Ducati rider in the class.
Hector Barbera said, “It is a real shame that the race ended like this, after so many laps riding at the limit. After the opening four laps I realised that the front tyre had practically melted away. I made a sudden drop in pace, because I was trying to
push the front end down and losing control on every corner.”
Barbera followed Ducati Team rider Nicky Hayden on the grid. Hayden was the top positioned Ducati rider in the grid. Barbera’s fortune ended when he decided to reclaim his lost positions.
Barbera said, “What I did was improvise with my riding style, and it took some five or six laps to get back to feeling comfortable. It should have been a lot sooner.”
Although he crashed in the final corner but earlier in the race, he was confident with his satellite Ducati about the front tyre issue.
During the last lap, he was riding well and just after approaching the final section of the track, he felt some trouble with the front tyre. The front slick was feel-less and caused Barbera to lose corner pace. However, he tried to overtake in the final
corner which he knew would be a tough task to cover due to the tyre problem.
His struggle with keeping the momentum up gave Randy de Puniet and Hiroshi Aoyama the chance to overtake. As Barbera closed into the final corner he risked his move and attempted to regain his lost position in the race, but the tyres ruined his act and made
him to crash. He ended with the worst situation, a DNF at Indy GP.
However, he enjoyed the race day with competitive pace and good fight with rivals. After the race weekend at Indianapolis, he and his crew have improved a lot. Barbera feels he can complete the upcoming Italian GP in a good position.
