Mapfre Aspar rider Hector Barbera says Twin Ring Motegi is a special track for him – MotoGP news
Mapfre Aspar rider Hector Barbera feels very special about the Twin Ring Motegi circuit. The 15th MotoGP round is going to take place at Motegi, Japan on October 2, 2011.
Earlier in his motorcycle-racing career, he was injured at Motegi during a 250cc race, but following that incident, he has experienced many good races at the Japanese venue.
Barbera said, “Motegi is a very special circuit for me, firstly because I had my first big injury there but came back to recover and continue with my life and my career when things could have turned out a lot worse.”
Previously after collecting a ‘did not finish’ status at Indianapolis, Barbera has tried to improve his race results. His struggle was seen at Misano with a ninth place finish and eighth at Motorland Aragon.
During the recent Spanish event, he displayed his strength while fighting hard in race against factory Ducati rider Nicky Hayden and Suzuki rider Alvaro Bautista.
Although he lost the battle in final laps but still he was better in other aspects. He did well to handle the tyre wear out problem every other rider on the grid was struggling with. At times Barbera was riding as fast as the Ducati machine in the race.
Barbera added, “I also have great memories of Japan because I took some of my first wins there and I have a lot of admiration for the Japanese people. To go there now and put on a show for them is a good way for us to help out with the difficulties they
are going through.”
The Spanish rider further commented on the Japanese track that it is a balanced circuit and consists of some hard braking corners. These are the few characteristics which Barbera like at Motegi. He added that considering the present form of the bike setup,
the track will complement its abilities.
Barbera was also thankful to his team for providing a decent race setup throughout the whole season.
