Mapfre Aspar rider Hector Barbera undergoes successful surgery in Spain – MotoGP news
Mapfre Aspar rider Hector Barbera has had a successful surgery on his fractured right collarbone in Spain.
The Spanish rider faced a crash at the Twin Ring Motegi circuit during recent MotoGP event, Grand Prix of Japan.
Upon returning from Japan, he was immediately admitted to the Clinica USP Dexeus, Barcelona. In Japan, he had medical assistance at the intensive care unit of Dokkyo University Hospital at Utsunomiya. After his initial check up, he was declared to be in
a position to travel abroad without any problem.
The Spanish rider faced a crash in the second lap of the race while starting off from ninth place on the grid. Though Barbera did not have a good start but he was determined to finish the race on a decent note.
The Spanish rider suffered from a multipoint fracture on his right collarbone. The hard blow to his collarbone shattered his clavicle into four parts. In addition to the fracture, he also sustained rashes and bruises on the left side of his lower back.
Barbera was kept under serious observation at the Dokkyo University Hospital as he lost his consciousness following the crash.
In Spain, it was planned to admit him to the Clinica USP Dexeus of Barcelona. Dr. Xavier Mir will be looking forward to operate his fractured collarbone.
Surgeon Dr. Xavier Mir has also operated Alvaro Bautista on his fractured left femur that he sustained from season-opener race weekend at Qatar.
Barbera’s right collarbone was provided with a plate and compression screws to fix the bone segments in position.
He will be kept under further observation for next 24-48 hours. Following the operation, his wounds will be observed for improvements and then he can start further physical exercise after five days.
After the operation, the recovery time is not long which will keep Barbera at rest even after the Australian Grand Prix.
Considering that he is the sole rider for the team, Mapfre Aspar has called in Damian Cudlin for the Phillip Island event being held on October 16, 2011.
The Australian rider also replaced injured Loris Capirossi of Pramac Racing at the Japanese Grand Prix.
