Mapfre Aspar rider Julian Simon tops Moto2 test session at Motorland
Aragon – MotoGP news
Mapfre Aspar Moto2 team rider, Julian Simon has topped the test session held at Motorland Aragon.
Simon made an effort to dominate the session since previously he has not been able to bag a single win in Moto2 class.
The Spaniard has scored nine podiums in his career but could not win any Moto2 GP. He was riding his Mapfre Aspar’s Suter machine during the private test session. Many other riders also participated in the two-day test session.
Simon said, “I'm very happy with the work we've done across these two days at Motorland. This is a track I really like and on which I've been comfortable from the very beginning. Our target for these two days was to fine-tune our feeling with the chassis,
and we've done more than that. We've also had time to develop other things and to find the best solutions.”
Simon’s debut season at Moto2 was 2010 but for 2011 he is considered the favourite for the championship title. Previously he has won a 125cc class 2009 world title and stays in the Mapfre Aspar livery for the Moto2 class.
The Spanish rider was clearly fast on both days of the test. His best lap time was 1:54.248 seconds. The best time by Simon was a second faster than the last season’s pole-qualifying lap time of Andrea Iannone on the same venue.
Pons Racing rider Aleix Espargaro was following Simon in second place which will be his debut season in the class. Moto2 rookie, Tech3 rider Bradley Smith was third on the time sheet. Javier Fores, Yonny Hernandez, Santiago Hernandez and Kenny Noyes were
in the following spots on the time sheet.
Looking into the 125cc category, Nico Terol was the man to lead the first day of the test session. Due to the absence of Terol on the second test day, Le Mans winner Maverick Vinales clocked the best lap time with 1:59.616 seconds.
