  1. Paris is divided into 20 different neighborhoods called arrondissements. Arrondissements are named according to their number. For example, you might live in the 5th arrondissement, which would be written as 5ème in French. If you know the postal code of any address in Paris, you can easily identify which arrondissement it is located in because Parisian postal codes take the form of - 75XXX - with the last two digits being equal to the arrondissement (e.g. 75008 is the postal code for the 8th arrondissement). The suburbs are called the banlieue. They are generally more peaceful than the city, and those to the west of Paris (Neuilly, Boulogne, Saint Cloud, Levallois) are the most desirable. Each neighborhood in Paris has its own special character which we'll try to describe below.

need to go to 1st web page also ..

maps of metro ... a great way to travel in and across the city

  2. You could print out some maps but once you get there there will be free metro maps and city maps -- generally available at metro stations and at your hotel.

You can also purchase inexpensive comprehensive maps of the city at train stations, magazine stands, etc.

Here are some links so you can get a head start:

  3. to get a really good map, i would suggest going to borders,or barnes and nobles.

    try googleing it though!!

    have fun in paris

  4. Free is fabulous, but I would spring for a map called "Streetwise Paris" available at Barnes & Nobles.  Unlike other maps, you can search by street/boulevards so if you're standing at Point A ... and you know the Street ... you can search it and get your bearings immediately.  Plus it's in a folded laminated format that resists tearing and wear.

I can't recall how much it was.

  5. Check up: paris.com

    Good luck.....

  6. You've already gotten some good suggestions from the people who responded before me. The only additional tip I can offer would be to go to http://photos.pagesjaunes.fr

Just type the name of the street where it says "Rue" and, if you know it, the number of the building right above that where it says "N°". This gives you not only a map, but in most cases also a picture of that building, which is kind of a handy feature sometimes. Enjoy your trip to the Ville Lumière (City of Lights).

  7. http://www.pariszoom.com/

If you clik on a "arrodissement" in the small map the streets appear in the big one and you can zoom on  it. You can have the subway plan : click on "M" for "Metro".

If you click on "I" you have the names of the parks and some places.

If you're looking for a street you enter the name in the top right rectangle and "enter".

    Enjoy your trip!

  8. Google map!
