Basketball without Borders heads to Russia for the first time ever and Brooklyn Nets owner Mikhail Prokhorov promises to show MarShon Brooks around.....
NBA’s Basketball without Borders Europe program is heading into Russia for the first time and the Brooklyn Nets sophomore shooting guard MarShon Brooks is going to be one of the people in the contingent representing the league.
Also attending the camp will be several NBA and Russian basketball legends.
The scheduled event has been made possible by the efforts of FIBA, NBA and the Russian Basketball Federation and a camp for Europe’s top 50 prospects has been planned from the 13th-16th September.
Brooks is the only Net in that squad and owner Mikhail Prokhorov has promised to show him and his agent Seth Cohen around the country – something the young guard is very excited about.
“I’m excited, looking forward to going to Moscow with Seth and representing Nets Nation in our owner’s home country,” said Brooks
That is however not the only thing Brooks is looking forward to and is also excited about sharing his views with the top 50 prospects from 25 different countries attending the camp;
“Sharing with [the prospects] what it’s like being a rookie in the NBA,” said Brooks, “and showing them a crossover.”
Brooks will be joined by Danny Green of the San Antonio Spurs and Brian Cardinal of the Dallas Mavericks. Other NBA players attending the event include Alexey Shved and Andrei Kirilenko of the Minnesota Timberwolves, Timofey Mozgov
of the Denver Nuggets with All-three having recently won a bronze medal with the Russian team at the London Olympics.
While Brooks is excited about heading into Russia as an NBA representative, his agent likes the approach taken by the league to approach the Nets owner Prokhorov for the event.
“The NBA came to the Nets, which makes sense. There is a large Russian community in Brooklyn. The Nets have Russian ownership and MarShon is very personable,” Cohen said. “The NBA and the Nets have gotten great feedback when MarShon
does an event, so he was asked to represent the Nets in Moscow.”
