Maracaibo, Venezuela? Does anyone know some main attractions?

  1. Maracaibo is the oil capital of Venezuela and therefore it is much more pleasing to the oil worker than the tourist. However there are some sights you might want to visit:

    Basilica de la Chiquinquira: very nice church, and home of the most important religious icon of Zulia: the virgen de Chiquinquira.

    Paseo del lago: a boulevard that as its name says is beside the lake. Very nice place to stroll around.

    El Saladillo: neighborhood where you can see colorfully painted colonial houses.

    Puente Rafael Urdaneta: concrete bridge symbol of the nation, it even has a song describing the feeling of crossing it.

    (From here you can also visit other places like the Andes and Falcon where you can find other things to do as well such as see the famous lighting of the Catatumbo (a lighting bolt that happens continuously in the same place)
