Marach/Peya overcome Hutchins/Murray to reach the doubles quarter-finals – BNP Paribas masters 2011
Seeded at number eight in the doubles draw, the Austrian duo of Oliver Marach and Alexander Peya registered a comprehensive victory over the British pair of Ross Hutchins and Andy Murray in the second round of the BNP Paribas Masters
on Wednesday evening.
Marach and Peya took merely 68 minutes of play to wind up victory in straight sets, 6-1, 6-3, advancing to the quarter-final rounds of the ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) World Tour 1000 event. It was the eighth victory
in doubles encounters for the 29th ranked Austrian duo in the running season, with just one defeat to its name. Marach and Peya have already bagged an ATP doubles title this year and their current form suggests that they are well up for another
one in Paris.
Despite of his belligerent form these days, the world number three, Andy Murray, couldn’t take his side to victory in the Wednesday’s contest. The Britons proved a total mismatch for the Austrian pair, which dominated every segment
of the game with commanding ease. Hutchins and Murray lacked the required coordination between them, something very well exhibited by Marach and Peya throughout the contest.
The Austrians dropped merely four out of 16 total games being played in the contest and faced no real challenge from the unseeded British duo in the entire matchup. Marach and Peya crafted 12 break points in the match and converted
four of them to race away to victory in the most assertive fashion. The Britons however, utterly failed to convert any of their opportunities in the contest, frittering away seven priceless break points to finish on the losing side in the end.
The eighth seeded duo was off to a flyer in the opening set, nailing two breaks of serve right up to race away to 4-0 in no time. Hutchins and Murray fell short of recovering from the early damage done by the Austrians and submitted
the opening set at 1-6 to trail 0-1 in the matchup. Only one break point conversion from Marach and Peya in the eighth game proved sufficient for them to close out the contest at 6-3, earning a place in the quarter-finals of the ATP Masters Series event.
Marach and Peya will take on the third seeded combination of Max Mirnyi of Belarus and Daniel Nestor of Canada in the quarter-final round to battle for the final four in the Paris Masters. Mirnyi and Nestor were successful against
the team of Frantisek Cermak of Czech Republic and Filip Polasek of Slovakia in the second round of the tournament.
