Pele returned to media limelight in the week with his audacious remarks regarding http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Lionel-Messi-c22296.
The three-time FIFA World Cup winner claimed that the Argentinean captain is not the best player in the world and argued that compatriot, Neymar, is better than him.
Pele’s recent outburst landed him in hot water with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Diego-Maradona-c11160 slamming him for his outrageous remarks. The much maligned 1986 World Cup winner called his Brazilian counterpart as stupid.
Maradona stated that there is a gulf between Neymar and Messi at the moment, and added that the 20-year-old can only make the claim of being the best player on the planet if the pint-sized attacker was on a different planet.
"My God, that is just stupid," Maradona noted. "Maybe http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Neymar-c27639 is the best player in the world, but only if you say that Messi is from a different planet."
Messi has been the cause of much debate in the current season, with his supporters claiming he is the best player ever to grace the beautiful game.
Ossie Ardiles joined the Messi bandwagon and believes he has the rightful claim to be considered as one of the best players ever.
Ardiles, who played seven seasons alongside the magnificent Maradona, argued that the diminutive attacker from Rosario has usurped the creator of hand of god among the best ever players ranking.
He admitted that unlike Maradona, Messi has yet to achieve results for the national team but is adamant with time the Albiceleste will favour from his presence.
"I played with Maradona for seven seasons and he was superb."
"I even thought that there would never be another player like him, but I have to admit that Messi is better.”
"Messi has not achieved results with the national team, but they will come, for sure.”
"There is a national evolution and the current players are getting better ... [But] Messi is by far the best."
Earlier this year,  Messi joined the list of players to be awarded three Ballon d’Or awards in a row and is en route to win if for an unprecedented fourth time.
