Marantz stereo amplifier/tuner Help?

Marantz stereo amplifier/tuner TA110/TA150 model number is what we have. When we play our cd player or other stuff through it it makes a loud pooping and crackling noise and some times the sound goes out but stereo is still on. It doesn't do this all the time it's kind of random. We have new speakers that work on everything else so it's not them. The cd player works too it does this with anything we plug in to it. Any help fixing it would be nice my brothers pretty good at fixing things but he needs help on this one.

trying to hook up a graphic equalizer to a vintage marantz stereo receiver,receiver has the selector dial that i run a cd player thru i've tried the out jacks from tape to inputs on equalizer which i was told to do and every other combination...help...receiver is a marantz 2250b, equalizer is a marantz eq551...
