  1. Safin.  The over-talented, mental midget player we all know would be number 1 if he could just stop partying and playing with the women.

He has more than the strokes, he has the physique, the strength, the movement, the serve, the volleys, the all court game.  Yet he lacks drive, motivation, and promise.  Kind of like a young guy that wore pink neon spandex, from the US, that made a mockery of the sport, and then turned around to become its greatest ambassador.

You gotta hope that the Ivan Drago of tennis would find his groove and play to his best because we all saw where that put him at the Australian 2 years ago, beating Federer at his best and a couple years before that, completely DESTROYING Pete Sampras at his best.

Safin needs to stop drinking the Vodka, avoid the fishing trips, the women, and maybe hang out with a hard worker like Nadal for a couple of months so he can find himself again.  I'm all for it!  Put him with Gilbert and Reyes!

  2. i think he is passed its best

  3. If strokes were the most important thing in tennis, then yes he could. But, contray to popular belief strokes are the least important thing in tennis.

    1.Mental toughness and desire

    2.Footwork

    3.Strokes

    He has no chance.

  4. He should be named the bad boy of tennis coz he knows what's not good for him and yet he keeps on doing it...well, that's life..live and let live...

  5. Yes, Safin has the strokes for sure, those will never go away.  What's missing though is his confidence, and the fact that he has always been a head case.  I hope he still has it in him to make a come back.  He's shown glimpses of his old brilliance a couple of times this year, just not on a consistent basis.

  6. Marat and Youzhny could be much better than they are. I put Youzhny in there, because he HAS the game, but needs a new coach and they both need a mental focus coach.

Guess you can't force motivation onto someone.

  7. I fully believe it's all about his confidence level.  He's young enough to be playing really well still and he's obviously had great results before but he's just breaking down mentally.  But my fingers are crossed.. Go Safin!!

  8. Marat definitely has the talent to win more grandslams, he's got the drive and the fight in him and he so incredibly talented it's not even funny. But he just doesn't have his head together at the moment, maybe too much partying and chugging Vodka, well how can I talk I'm a vodka-chugging russki too LOL. But seriously Safin definitely has the talent and because of his emotional outbursts on court, people think he has no talent, but he's won two grandslams so he knows how to win on the big stage. Marat just needs to get his confidence and focus back.

  9. He certainly has the potential and talent but I think a lack of mental drive and living in monte carlo do not help him. He needs to relocate and focus hard on his tennis if he has a chance of retaining his top spot in the rankings.

  10. I hope he doesn't retire. We women need the eye candy he provides....

  11. no he ll not come back because he is level down because he became very angry

  12. he no doubt has the strokes but the consistency is completely gone, though his drive is definitely there when playing davis cup.

he is widely considered as a person who wasted his talent because of his crazy mind but i think he has achieved quite a lot though i dont think there will be a comeback like getting to the top 20.but i think he can manage top 30 atleast.

i hope he does cos he is a great player.
