Marathon runners not bothered by weather conditions – Athletics news
With the Ogden Marathon just a few hours away, thousands of the runners vowing to compete in the long distance run, half marathon, 5K and relay competitions, along with the organisers of the event are praying for having a clear and conducive day.
Talking to the media personal over the weather forecasts, Goal Foundation director, Jenny Scothern said that they had been monitoring the course.
GOAL Foundation organises the Zion’s Bank Ogden Marathon every year and Scothern was of the view that the only arrangement they had to make before the formal commencement of the event was on the Washington Boulevard and 18th Ave, in order to make
up for the rain forecast. A course where runners used to go under the bridge now guides them to go over the bridge. The slighter change in the course of the event has been backed by the Boston Marathon-qualifying certificates.
Commenting about the supposedly unsupportive weather conditions during the marathon, Stefanie Talley, the winner of the last year’s women event said that though she had her entire training while running on the treadmill, yet, she was ready to encounter whatever
weather conditions the day brings in.
While expressing her resolve to not only defend her title but to challenge the course record as well, she said, “I honestly try not to think about it because it’s going to be what it is, and everyone is going to have to deal with it. Hopefully it doesn’t
rain a ton, but I’ll probably be over-prepared and have lots of layers that I have to peel off as I go.”
Just like the title defender, Rosie Lee, one of the top competitors of the women’s event from Mountain Green, said that though she had also been training on the treadmill amid her responsibility to be with her young kids at home, she was not feeling comfortable
to go out in a cold spring season.
Expressing her apprehensions about the event and referring back to a couple of similar events she had to suffer in the past, Lee, who holds the fastest Utah high school mile record and who had the privilege to run for the Weber State University along with
Talley, said, “My long runs on Saturday when it was a blizzard, I said, ‘Oh, I’m going to have to stay inside’. That happened a couple times. The treadmill is kind of a convenience thing, but those Saturdays when you really want to go outside and it’s raining,
man”.
Scothern was of the view that there were not many people who were worried about weather conditions. However, revealing that according to the weather watch report there was nothing to worry about, the anticipation for having a clear and good running Saturday
are high.
