Marc Colombo retires as Dallas Cowboys’ player – NFL News
Offensive tackle, Marc Colombo, who recently signed a one-year contract with Dallas Cowboys, has officially announced his retirement from the National Football League (NFL).
Colombo had earlier decided to retire from the league, but he wanted to call it quits while being a member of the squad of Cowboys – the franchise with which he had most success.
Colombo started his professional NFL career with Chicago Bears in 2002. He played four seasons with Bears before joining Cowboys and had the time of his life at Dallas.
Colombo played six seasons with Cowboys and joined Miami Dolphins last year. After playing one season for the Dolphins, he decided to end his professional career as a player, but wanted to do so as a Cowboy.
To achieve his goal of retiring as a Cowboy, Colombo recently met with the franchise’s owner, Jerry Jones, and expressed his desire and said that he always wanted to retire as a Cowboy.
Jones was more than pleased to approve Colombo’s request and gave him a ceremonial contract, which could allow him to retire in Dallas.
While announcing his retirement, Colombo thanked Cowboys’ front office for selecting him and making him a part of his organisation.
He also wished the franchise and his teammates best of luck for future and hoped for the team’s success in the next NFL season.
He said:
“I felt like this is the first thing I wanted to do when my time was up – come back here to the Dallas Cowboys organisation and remember what we did here. I'm excited about this football team for the future. For you guys to take an average, hard-working
guy like me and make a big deal like this, it's greatly appreciated."
Even Jerry Jones was delighted to give the player this prestigious opportunity. Jones appreciated Colombo’s talent and said that his team’s offensive line was at its best when Colombo was its part.
Jones said of Colombo:
"I don't know when we've ever had a player that played in a position of a unit that would impact the attitude and what we were on the offensive line, anymore than Marc."
Cowboys’ head coach, Jason Garrett, also praised the player for his services to the team and wished him best of luck for the future.
