Marc Colombo signs ceremonial contract with Dallas Cowboys before retirement – NFL News
Former Dallas Cowboys’ offensive tackle, Marc Colombo, who played the last National Football League (NFL) season with Miami Dolphins, has signed a one-year contract with Cowboys, different reports claimed on Friday, April 20, 2012.
It is expected that the official announcement of this development will be made on Monday.
Colombo has spent played 10 seasons in the NFL and the recent contract he has signed with the Cowboys will allow him to retire as a Cowboy.
Colombo started his professional NFL career in 2002 with the Chicago Bears. He played three seasons for Bears and could not give his hundred percent owing to different injuries and he, eventually, was released by Bears.
After being released by Bears, Colombo joined Cowboys in 2005 and played for them until the 2010 season. He thinks that the time he spent with Cowboys was the best of his professional career.
While talking to ESPNDallas.com, Colombo said
"My time here was the majority of my career. I feel like this place made me the football player I always wanted to be. It's just an amazing place with an unbelievable owner. To be able to play at other places you realise there's nothing like being a Cowboy."
Cowboys released Colombo, who was their regular starter, in July 2011 and following the departure from Dallas, the player joined Miami Dolphins on a one-year contract.
He started all the games with Dolphins in the last season and has now returned to the Cowboys for another one-year deal, which will enable him to end his professional career as a Cowboy.
On his return to franchise, Colombo met with Cowboys’ owner and general manager, Jerry Jones, and praised his generosity.
Colombo also said that he always wanted to retire as a Cowboy.
“I think getting away for a year was a good thing because it made me realize how fortunate I was to play as long as I did with the Cowboys.”
He added:
“I just think being able to retire as a Dallas Cowboy is something I always envisioned after I'd been here for a few years.”
Colombo also thanked his fans for their support and encouragement.
