Marc Gasol, Kevin Love: The best bigs in the league – NBA Feature (Part 1)
Big men are the foundations on which the NBA teams have won championships in the past. Take any great team of the past and you will find power forward or a centre in the spotlight.
However, finding the bigs can be a bit of gamble. These guys are normally on the top of the draft every year, but more often than not, they turn out to be a disappointment. If you doubt it, consider the examples of Kwame Brown,
the number one draft pick in 2002 and Greg Oden, the numero uno in the 2007 version.
In this feature, we will look at some of the best active bigs in the league;
Marc Gasol:
Memphis Grizzlies obsession with Gasol’s is highly justified. Pau Gasol served Grizzlies for seven extraordinary years and in 2008 was traded to Lakers. Yet, the Grizzlies were left with the younger brother, Mark Gasol. In three
years, Mark has managed to cement his place in Grizzlies with his exceptional performances.
He continued from where his brother left and is just carrying out the legacy of Paul. Although he may never be able to reach the level of his elder brother, there is a little to distinguish between both when it comes to potential.
Marc is an exceptional performer and a consistent double-double threat. In the 2011 playoffs, he was pivotal in helping the Grizzlies overcome the top seeded San Antonio Spurs. Teamed with the brilliant Zach Randolph, he then guided
the Grizzlies against the Oklahoma City Thunder. Although, the Grizzlies lost that series in seven games, the post season witnessed the emergence of a new post sensation.
Marc is still very young and the more he will plays, the more he will improve. I wouldn’t be surprised if he ends as one of the greatest players to ever adorn the Grizzlies uniform.
Kevin Love:
One of the best rebounders and most consistent double-double threats in NBA, Kevin Love holds the record for longest streak for consecutive double-doubles (53) since the merger of NBA and ABA.
The 23 year old power forward is a beast on the paint and is carrying the legacy of the great Kevin Garnett, who carried the Wolves on his own for 12 years.
Last season, on November 12, 2010, Kevin placed his name in the record books by scoring a 31 points and career high 31 rebounds, the first triple-triple in nearly 28 years. He finished last season as the best rebounder with an
average of 15.2 per game.
