Marc Gene denies Fernando Alonso’s superiority over Felipe Massa in Ferrari team – Formula 1
Ferrari’s Formula 1 test driver Marc Gene has clearly stated that Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa are one hundred percent same in the team and no extra privilege is given to any one of them.
Gene’s comment came in light of the strong rumours that Alonso is getting a special treatment in the Ferrari team and Massa is considered as a second driver.
Gene stated, “If the results of Fernando have been superior it is because of his very high level. I can confirm 100 percent that both Felipe and Fernando have the same materials at their disposal.”
Gene further added that when Alonso joined the Ferrari team, he overreached all the expectations and delivered something special.
He added, “I cannot judge what he did in his time at Renault and McLaren but I have worked with World Champions Schumacher, Villeneuve and Raikkonen and Fernando is the one who impresses me the most.”
At the time when Alonso and Hamilton were teammates in the McLaren team, things did not turn out well for them because they both were very talented drivers.
However, as the Spaniard moved to Ferrari he was regarded as one of the better drivers which provoked the media to say that Alonso is getting a special treatment.
The first races of the 2011 season have turned out well for the Spaniard but no so well for the Brazilian driver which enticed everyone to point fingers at the Ferrari camp.
In the 2010 season, Massa was told on team radio to slow down for the fast approaching Spaniard which also intensifies the fact that Alonso is treated specially in the team.
The contract of Fernando Alonso has been extended in the Ferrari team but Massa is still under observation and his future in the team is dependent on his 2011 performance.
So far, the Brazilian has not completed two out of the six races due to various reasons. However, similar performances from him will jeopardise his seat for the 2012 season.
