Marc Lacomare and Alejo Muniz win respective Round 3 heats at Vans World Cup of Surfing
France’s Marc Lacomare and Brazil’s Alejo Muniz were able to successfully secure their place in Round 4 (Round of 32) at the Vans World Cup of Surfing, second jewel on the 30th anniversary Vans Triple Crown of Surfing, after emerging triumphant
in their respective Round 3 (Round of 64) heats that went down at Sunset Beach in Oahu, Hawaii, on Monday, December 3, 2012.
A second-place finish in the 13th heat kept Australia’s Adam Melling alive in the competition as well by taking him through into the next round, whereas Australia’s Josh Kerr and his compatriot Garrett Parkes rounded out the third and fourth position,
which resulted in their ejection from the contention for the event title.
The 14th heat saw America’s Tanner Gudauskas accompany Muniz into the fourth round after finishing in second place. Brazil’s Raoni Monteiro finished third, while Hawaii’s Dusty Payne had to settle for fourth place. Both the surfers were consequently
removed the competition field.
There was plenty of motivation present at the latest Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) Prime event for the surfers to push hard and attempt to tame the conditions on hand regardless of how demanding they were.
The 13th heat saw Lacomare put on an impressive performance to down Melling, Kerr and Parkes in the four-man battle for the Round 4 spot.
The French surfer got off to an impressive start and eventually converted it to a 7.33-point ride. Backing it up with a 5.37-point ride, Lacomare finished with a heat-total of 12.70 points, which kept him in the lead until the end to earn him the win.
Melling made it through into the next round as well after securing second place with a heat-total of 10.83 points, which included a couple of scores in the five-point range.
Kerr and Parkes got eliminated from the competition after round out the bottom-two positions due to their respective heat-totals of 9.00 and 6.16 points respectively.
The 14th heat saw Muniz claim victory after putting on an exquisite performance, which featured an 8.07 and 7.73-point ride for a decisive heat-total of 15.80 points.
Gudauskas accompanied him to the next round after collecting a couple of scores in the seven-point range for a two-wave total of 14.87 points.
Monteiro finished third with a heat-total of 7.50 points, which Payne had to settle for fourth place after failing to do any better than a heat-total of 6.80 points.
