Marc Lievermont forced to move Damien Traille from fullback to inside center for France
Marc Lievermont, the French coach has been forced to move Damien Traille to inside centre from full back for the upcoming Six Nations fixture with Ireland on Sunday in Dublin. Damien Traille will be taking over the number 12 jersey after this recent development.
Traille is replacing Maxime Mermoz at inside center because of his injury. Mermoz dislocated his shoulder in Paris and ended his season in a 34-21 win over Scotland. The Biarritz back and the versatile French full back has already played at three different
positions in this season including the previous tests for his national side. He appeared as a fly half in November against Australia.
Damien Traille is a French rugby union player and usually plays as the centre, full back or fly half. He is currently playing in Top 14 tournament for Biarritz Olympique in France and is also an existing member of French International squad for Six Nations.
The 31 year old has represented France in Six Nations’ wins in 2002, 2004 and 2006.
He has played just one World Cup for France and that is in 2003. He made his debut as an international player against Springboks in 2001 in Paris. Since then he has earned 74 caps and scored 115 points for his country. The 6ft 4in fullback started his professional
rugby with Section Paloise in 1998 and played for a long period till 2004. From there he moved to his current home club Biarritz Olympique. In his not so detailed career for his national side, he has always played as a starting line player and has been a consistent
member in important matches. He has played all the matches in 2003 World Cup and in Six Nations that he got selected for.
Meanwhile, Clement Poitrenaud will be playing in the first 15 and coming off the bench for the first time this season. He has been placed to fill the empty spot which Traille left due to Mermoz’s injury. Yannick Jauzion has also been recalled at the back
line. Luc Ducalcon’s spot is taken by Sylvian Marconnet and other than this no major changes took place in French squad.
