Marc Márquez achieving his first World Championship Title
Marc Márquez achieving his first World Championship TitleMarc Márquez began his racing career at just the age of six years when his parents bought him his first motorcycle as a Christmas present. He started out in children’s enduro,
motocross and mini-bike competitions, before making his way into road-racing.
His local performances attracted the attention of former 125cc World Champion Emilio Alzamora who has since counseled the youngster and helped bring him into the 125cc World Championship.
The 17 year-old took the 2010 125cc title this year at Valencia in the final round of the season with a bang becoming the second youngest rider ever to win a World Championship title. It was indeed brilliance from the youngster
winning ten races, finishing on the podium another two times and securing a record 12 podiums throughout the campaign.
“At the beginning we didn’t expect to win the Championship but when we started the races my level was good,” said Márquez in his interview. “I was having more rapport with the team and we improved a lot at every circuit so when
we started to win in Mugello I thought: ‘Why not? We can win this Championship and we will try’. But now this is true, we won and this is incredible.”
Márquez had five consecutive wins in the tournament making him the youngest ever to have achieved such a winning streak, starting from his victory at Mugello in Round 4. Then in the dramatic second last round at Estoril, the Spanish
youngster won, starting from the back of the grid.
The 2010 season started with Márquez struggling for the podium and stricken by several crashes. He embarked on a five-race winning streak straight into the Championship lead as he broke the victory duck at Mugello.
There were ups & downs specifically in the second half of the season. There was a disappointing result at Brno and also a crash whilst leading at Indianapolis, losing the lead in the series. Even then, his strong determination
had him sweep clean into the prime spot to take the title.
This was the second time that Márquez had been making his run at Valencia. Last year, he was placed 17th. This season, was a tough call and the final at Valencia was a contest for the title with either Marc Márquez or
Nico Terol crowned as the 125cc World Champion with a seventeen points separation. If Terol were to win the race, Márquez would have to finish no lower than eighth at the finish line, to claim the title following a thrilling previous round in Portugal. And
if Terol had finished second, Márquez had to finish no lower than thirteen. The task was somewhat simple and the kind of ride Márquez was making, there was not much doubt that he would let this opportunity slip from his hands.
He commenced the race season in fourth position in the last GP Generali de la Comunitat Valenciana but the massive lead secured the 17 year-old rider his first World Championship. After sealing the 125cc title, it is about time
for Marc Márquez to make his move up to Moto2.
The Spanish rider was crowned the 125cc World Champion title on his home soil. Upon his return to Cervera in northern Spain, thousands of fans turned out in his glory. The town of Cervera gave a ecstatic welcome home to Marc Márquez
on the evening as the 17 year-old returned with the crown of 125cc World Champion. The youngster was received upon his arrival from Valencia by an extravagant pageant, which included masses of motorcycle fans and music bands, celebrating in a true party atmosphere.
